The new version adds a Map Style setting: choose between Standard, Hybrid and Satellite from the View menu or from the new control in the map's zoom pill, and the choice is kept across launches and shared by the Map, Side-by-Side and Vertical tabs.

Insta360 INSP photos are now accepted and written like any other JPEG. Insta360 INSV videos are read but no longer offered for writing, because exiftool cannot rewrite them; they are skipped with an explanation instead of a failed write. Tag the MP4 that Insta360 Studio exports instead.

The first full release of Media Location Tagger, the dedicated GPS and location-metadata editor for photos and videos on the Mac. Apart from the version number it is identical to the sixth beta. Since the first public beta on 10th September, the beta releases added:

Saved Places. Save a pin or a photo's location as a named place with your own sub-location, city, province and country names, and drop it on any future batch from the Places menu, the sidebar's star button or the map's search field.
Your own place names per pin, kept alongside the Apple Maps and built-in database suggestions.
Pins that survive relaunches, a Pins menu with ⇧⌘ shortcuts for the map tools, and a menu bar organised by purpose: Location, Navigate, Pins, Places and View.
Coordinates in any notation. The map's search field and the GPS fields accept decimal degrees, degrees and minutes, degrees, minutes and seconds, exiftool's spelling, and Apple Maps, Google Maps and geo: links.
XMP sidecars are written as companions of their photo, hemisphere reference fields are read correctly, and each photo gets exactly one marker on the map.
Apple Photos libraries are refused, because editing files inside a library corrupts it; the app points to the guide on exporting from Photos first.
Fixes for a startup crash on macOS 15 Sequoia, a crash during bulk writes, metadata reads for files handed to the app at launch, and dark mode throughout.

Media Location Tagger requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

The sixth beta release fixes a metadata bug reported by beta testers, makes coordinates much easier to enter and protects Apple Photos libraries:

First read after launch. Files handed to the app at launch, for instance by dropping them on the Dock icon, could wrongly show "no GPS" or stay at "waiting…" until the list was cleared and the files added again. Metadata is now read exactly once per file and every row is told when its result arrives.
Any coordinate notation. The map's search field and the Item and Pin GPS fields now understand decimal degrees, degrees and decimal minutes, and degrees, minutes and seconds, with hemisphere letters before or after the numbers, exiftool's "deg" spelling, typographic degree, minute and second marks, lat/lon labels, pairs separated by a comma, semicolon, slash or spaces, and Apple Maps, Google Maps and geo: links. As soon as the search text parses, the suggestions show a "Go to lat, lon" row; Return drops a pin there and zooms in.
Apple Photos libraries are refused. Editing the files inside a Photos library corrupts it, so the app no longer accepts anything that lies inside a .photoslibrary package and explains why, with a Learn More… button that opens the guide on exporting from Photos first.
The map tool tooltips now lead with the tool's name as it appears in the Pins menu.

The fifth beta release adds Saved Places and a number of refinements to working with pins:

Saved Places. Save the current pin, or the selected photo or video, as a named place together with its GPS coordinates and your own sub-location, city, province and country names. Drop a saved place on any future batch from the new Places menu, from the star button in the sidebar, or by typing part of its name into the map's search field, where saved places are listed above Apple's suggestions. Rename, update and delete places in the Manage Saved Places window. Places are stored in a plain JSON file in the app's Application Support folder, so they can be copied to another Mac.
Your own place names per pin. Each pin now has an editable row above the Apple Maps and built-in database suggestions. Type the names you want once; they stay with the pin and are what a saved place remembers. Show the row with Places › Show Custom Place Names (⌥⌘N); it appears by itself on pins that have custom names.
Pins survive relaunches. The pins on the map and the current pin are restored when the app starts. Pins › Restore Pins at Launch turns this off, and Pins › Delete All Pins… clears the map.
A Pins menu and keyboard shortcuts. The menu bar is now organised by purpose: Location for commands that change location metadata, Navigate for moving between items and pins, Pins for everything about pins and the map tools, Places for saved places, View for layout and zoom. The map tools, Add Pin at Item Location, Zoom to Pin and Delete Current Pin have ⇧⌘ shortcuts; View › Zoom In and Zoom Out (⌘+ / ⌘-) mirror the map's zoom buttons.
A pin dropped from a saved place is titled with the place's name, on the map and in the sidebar.
Creating a pin or stepping to the next or previous pin keeps your current map zoom.
Dark mode: the map toolbars and search field follow the system appearance, the About window's credits are readable, and the sidebar no longer mixes light and dark colours.

The fourth beta release fixes two crashes reported by beta testers and restores two menu items:

The app no longer crashes at startup on macOS 15 Sequoia. The select-pin toolbar icon used a symbol that only exists on macOS 26; it now falls back to a bundled copy of the same glyph on older systems.
Writing location data to many files at once no longer crashes. The map markers were being updated from two background threads at the same time; marker changes now always happen on the main thread.
The "Check for Update..." and "Enter Unlock Code..." items are back in the application menu.
Closing the unlock code dialog with its title bar button no longer leaves the app stuck without a visible window.
Entering an invalid unlock code shows the error once instead of three times.

The third beta release fixes the problems reported by the first beta testers, most of them concerning photos that keep their metadata in XMP sidecar files:

XMP sidecars are now written as companions of their photo. Every change to a photo is also written to the sidecar next to it, whether or not the sidecar is in the file list, and sidecars are no longer written on their own.
Sidecars that store the GPS hemisphere in separate latitude and longitude reference fields are now read correctly instead of being placed east or north of their true location.
The map shows one marker per photo. A sidecar next to its photo no longer produces a second marker at the same spot, so pairs no longer appear as permanent two-file clusters.
Marker and cluster colours now follow the selection when it is changed from the file table, the keyboard or the previous and next buttons, not only when a marker is clicked on the map.
Selecting a file in the Side-by-Side and Vertical views keeps the current map zoom instead of resetting it, so files you have just zoomed in to separate stay apart.
Arrow-key file selection keeps working after switching between the Items, Side-by-Side, Vertical and Map tabs.
Removing files or clearing the file list now also removes their markers from the map.
The "Drag Your Files and Folders Here" placeholder scales to fit the narrower table in the Side-by-Side view and the shorter one in the Vertical view.
